Book review

The Cyanobacteria: Molecular Biology, Genomics and Evolution

The new book The Cyanobacteria: Molecular Biology, Genomics and Evolution has been extensively written and structured to reflect the many advances that have occurred in cyanobacteriology during the past two decades. Internationally renowned scientists have served as authors for its more than 16 chapters. The first book on ecology of cyanobacteria "The ecology of cyanobacteria" took a bold step to become a extensive book on cyanobacteria. A bolder step was taken with this new book which reflects increasing awareness of the role played by cyanobacteria in molecular, genomic, evolutionary and in biotechnological applications. High effort has been exerted to provide a comprehensive and authoritative encyclopedic survey of cyanobacteria for which adequate molecular and physiological data are available. Thus, this new book excellently complements the older books on cyanobacteria, but still taxonomic, phylogenetic and systematic studies are less represented. The Cyanobacteria: Molecular Biology, Genomics and Evolution will undoubtedly become a prime reference source for all scientists and students interested in microbial genetics and applied microbiology of cyanobacteria.
